EthnoRanker
Privacy
This page describes what EthnoRanker stores when you play, when you create an account, and when you contribute to world rankings. It also points to Cloudflare’s Turnstile terms, which we must reference because the live site uses Turnstile.
Play stays on your device
Your ranking session and theme preference are saved in this browser (localStorage). You can play without an account. Clearing site data on your device deletes that local copy. Current-run progress is not copied to other devices.
Accounts and Premium
If you sign in we store the email Google shares with us, a Google account id, a session cookie, and whether Premium is unlocked. We do not store a password.
Lifetime Premium is a $5 USD one-time payment through Stripe Checkout. EthnoRanker does not see or store card numbers. Stripe’s processing is described in Stripe’s own privacy policy.
If you have Premium, your exclusion and favourite lists are saved on your account so they follow you across devices. Those lists are cleared from this browser when you log out.
Optional ranking contribution
The first time a run automatically opens Results, the game may send one contribution so we can update shared averages. That request includes:
- female or male, and Groups-only vs full list
- the ordered profile ids at finish (best to worst)
- how many comparisons you made and when the run started
- a Cloudflare Turnstile token
We do not send click-by-click history, your email, a raw IP address, or your exclusion list. After pairwise win counts are added, the ordered list is discarded. Individual rankings are not stored.
At most one accepted contribution is kept per board per hashed network per UTC calendar day. If you are logged in, the same cap also applies to your account, so a different network the same day does not grant another upload.
Country
Cloudflare provides a country code from your connection (CF-IPCountry). We store that code with the aggregate, not your IP. The daily cap uses a one-way hash of your IP mixed with a secret salt, the board, and the UTC date.
Who is on the site
While the site is open, the browser may ping the API about every 30 seconds so the homepage can show how many people are here and which countries they are connecting from. That ping stores only a hashed IP and a country code, and those rows expire after about 60 seconds.
Cloudflare Turnstile
Invisible Turnstile runs when a contribution is sent and when you create an account, to reduce automated use. Cloudflare’s processing of that check is described in the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum. That addendum is part of how we use Turnstile on this site.
Cookies and similar storage
The ranking game itself does not use advertising cookies. A session cookie is set on the API host when you log in so the site can stay signed in. Turnstile may use cookies or similar storage as described in Cloudflare’s addendum. Game progress and theme use localStorage on your device.
